About
A textured glass chandelier consisting of 6 panels on a brass frame with brass hardware and a fluted glass canopy cover by Carl Fagerlund for Orrefors, Sweden C. 1940's - 3 Available ____
While Orrefors was receiving critical praise across the Atlantic, World War II was breaking out in Europe. At a time when many of the glassworks factories across mainland Europe were being forced to slow down production or close all together due to the war, production at Orrefors continued to flourish. During the war years, Orrefors manufactured some of the finest studio ranges in Sweden. With Sweden's neutrality and geographical location, not only were materials more easily available, but a safe place was provided where glass artists affected by the occupation could come and continue to practice their art. With the influx of designers, along with the continued practice of hiring national designers like Carl Fagerland, Orrefors was able to create an extensive network of artists and craftsmen that would benefit their ability to continue to produce glass as well as to experiment with various techniques throughout the war.
