About An abstract gilt bronze dining table base by sculptor Fred Brouard, French circa 1970s. Signed by the artist. Fred Brouard was born April 28, 1944 in Caen in Normandy. At sixteen he was admitted to the Beaux-Arts in Rouen, where he follows a classical education taught by the painter and sculptor Savary Leleu. He passes the entrance exam to the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, settles in the capital and gets married. He earns his living by doing odd jobs while attending courses of fine Arts where he entered the studio of Henri-Georges Adam. This encourages him to persevere in the medium of sculpture. He then takes the decision to live alone in a room of the Latin Quarter, where he researches his works which merely small plaster sculptures lack of money. In 1967 he becomes assistant to sculptor Alicia Penalba and she allows him to display in 1970 at the International Exhibition of Jewelry Art Contemporain de Montreal. In 1973, he obtained a home workshop Artists Nogent sur Marne and begins a long period of friendship and confrontation with colleagues. Through John Craven, he meets Emilio Marccioni, who has an interior design shop Santangelo, and they collaborate as sculptors who can create furniture sculpture in bronze. He finally realizes his dream of tackling all the opportunities in the material. He exhibits with the New School of Paris by Denys Knight, president of the Young Sculpture Show, and in New York at the Sonnabend Gallery. In 1974 he exhibited for the first time at the Great Exhibition and Youth of Today, and in many Provincial cities. He was awarded the "Signatures". He was invited in 1975 at the Biennale of Padua in Lausanne. In 1976, he acquired in Verneuil sur Seine, Yvelines a small house with a garden where he built his studio and he hoped to find new strengths, his relationship with Nogent group were heavy during this period. He participated in many group exhibitions. He polished his bronzes with a craftsman, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, Louis Privat, who will provide the drive for perfection.
